Primary school pupils have been praised for their financial habits by Islwyn MP Chris Evans.
Mr Evans was recently invited to a special school assembly at Pengam Primary School to see for himself how pupils are getting into good saving habits from an early age.
During the visit Mr Evans, who has championed financial literacy, was told how pupils and staff are members of the school’s credit union and have already saved more than £2,000.
He presented certificates to the top ‘bankers’ who have helped make the credit union such a success.
The school’s credit union was established just over a year ago with the help of Islwyn Community Credit Union.
Mr Evans said: “Understanding the importance of saving and money management is vital, and initiatives like this ensure that young people develop the sort of skills which will help them when they are older.”
A Labour MP praising sensible spending and saving money. You couldn’t make it up!
Yes Dean, not the most expert party at financial prudence, despite former chancellor Brown’s love of that word. Still, the same can be said of the Tories who are borrowing money to fund foreign aid as well as service the interest on the debt that they inherited.
Mind you, Conservative Maria Miller was adept in handling her personal finances. Not only did she manage to get more than £45,000 off the tax payer, without it seems having ‘done anything wrong’ but cleverly used the money in property and made a handsome profit.
I agree entirely. It doesn’t just stop at the Conservatives. All parties fiddled their expenses.
This newspaper write plenty of stories about local businesses making decent profits and becoming successful. Caerphilly is home to PHS too, they’re massive. A managing director from a local company would be far better, and more inspiring too that a drab MP.
