Community schemes in Caerphilly County Borough are set to benefit from a £250,000 boost from Caerphilly County Borough Council.
The council’s Community Schemes budget provides funding for a wide variety of initiatives in communities, including maintenance and repair work, planting projects and playgrounds.
Among the improvements supported through Community Scheme funding in 2013/14 were footpath repairs in Phillipstown, a play park in New Tredegar, resurfacing works to an access road at Pontlottyn Welfare Ground and drainage works at Woodfieldside pitch. Allocations were also awarded to a number of community initiatives including Go Wild!, Pride in your Pitch and River Schools.
Members of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet approved the £252,000 Community Schemes budget for 2014/15 during a meeting on Wednesday April 2.
From that budget, £100,000 will be allocated to the Community Response Team (NCS) to carry out works such as seat repairs, replacement of vandalised street furniture and hard landscaping. Elsewhere, urban renewal schemes will receive £20,000, community partnerships will be awarded £35,000, while parks and cemeteries will be given £40,000.
Cllr David Poole, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Community & Leisure Services, said: “I’m pleased that the Council has been able to continue its support for this important budget which empowers communities and adds to a sense of local pride in a well kept county borough.”
Caerphilly CBC drive me insane. They can find £250,000 for this. The repairs and resurfacing a I support and give priority to but community I inactives I do not. Yet they can’ trine £56,000 for ‘Tour of Britain’ to pass through?
The sooner they’re all voted out the better.
They can always find money for their pet projects my friend….but ask them to support something that the hard working traders and business people of Caerphilly might profit from, now don’t be silly.
I suppose you’re right there. It’s interesting the several Labour and Plaid councillor who regularly comment here don’t explain their reasoning. It reinforces the belief they only comment when they feel they need to answer to someone (which is very rarely)
