ON YOUR BIKE: Cyclists are being urged to explore the Taff Trail with a new audio treasure hunt

Transport charity Sustrans has launched a new audio treasure hunt for cyclists.

Taff Tales gives cyclists a new way to explore the National Cycle Network.

Using their mobile phones to listen to audio clips, cyclists can follow the stories and cycling adventures of Catrin and Gruff – the two characters that narrate the trail – and take part in a series of treasure hunts along the routes.

Developed by Sustrans Cymru and marketing agency Yello Brick, the scheme has been funded by the European Regional Development as part of the Valleys Regional Park Programme.

Taff Tales spans six routes that branch off from the popular Taff Trail, including two traffic-free routes in Caerphilly – The Green Lady Trail from Nantgarw to Machen via Caerphilly Castle, and the Three Parcs Trail from Quakers Yard to Hengoed.

Before setting off, families can download maps for the routes and discover what they might find along the way.

Angela Spiteri, Senior Marketing Officer at Sustrans, said: “Taff Tales is a unique and fun way to explore the traffic-free routes on the Taff Trail, and is an exciting and low-cost activity for all the family.

“We hope it will encourage people of all ages to discover stories of the past and learn about the history of the area, whilst keeping fit and having fun together.”

Peter Cole, Regional Strategy Director at Capital Region Tourism said: “Taff Tales is an innovative and fun way to discover the wonderful and diverse attractions and sites of the Valleys. Each route offers a unique glimpse into the rich cultural heritage and history of the area, taking in many fascinating landmarks including Rhondda Heritage Park, Caerphilly Castle, Ynysangharad Park and the beautiful Parc Penallta – all with a surprising story to tell.

“This really will be a day out with a difference for our visitors with real appeal for families whether local or visiting for the first time”.

Taff Tales will run from Good Friday to the end of the summer holidays.
