Runners from Caerphilly joined thousands of athletes to complete the London Marathon on Sunday April 13.

Jon Hughes, 26, ran to raise money for cancer charity Tenovus, finishing in just under five hours.

The Caerphilly County Borough Council employee said before the race: “I’m running for Tenovus because it is a charity close to my heart. They provided support to my family and friends when those who were close to us were ill with cancer.

“I’m not a natural runner by any means. The first half marathon I ran last October was the furthest I have ever run in my life.

“I am trying to run three times a week on top of my rugby commitments and going to the gym but it’s a real struggle dealing with aches and pains.

“I’ve never experienced before – the impact running has on your knees is unbelievable.”

Barrister Angharad Price also works for the council and ran the marathon in six hours.

Raising money for Asthma UK, Angharad said: “I’ve had asthma since I was seven- years-old and I’ve been going through a rough time recently where my asthma has not been good.

“Asthma UK have been a big help by providing me with the right information as well as the inspiration to get back on track.”
