A Caerphilly town primary school has celebrated the tenth anniversary of the first walking bus in the county borough.

The walking bus at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili has been clocking up the miles for ten years, ever since 30 children set out on their first journey back in May 2004.

Lynn Griffiths, headteacher at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Caerffili, said: “Ten years ago to this month we started our walking bus, and we have found over the years that the children who use the walking bus encourage their parents and friends to walk to school on the other days of the week.

“Last year we were awarded with the Eco Schools Platinum Award and the walking bus was a huge part of this award. Every child who has used our walking bus has made a massive contribution to looking after their own health and also our environment and I’m happy we are able to celebrate the tenth anniversary.”
