Thousands of visitors enjoyed some summer fun at Blackwood Beach Party last weekend.

The high street was transformed into a spectacular seaside complete with rides, sideshows, entertainers and sand. Local shops got into the summer spirit by transforming their window displays into seaside scenes.

Visitors were entertained by some rather unusual visitors to Blackwood, including a set of hilarious holiday-makers and some very suspicious looking pirates. Hundreds of people were brave enough to try their luck on a surfing simulator, testing how long they could ‘catch a wave’.

For those looking for something a little more relaxing there were plenty of deck chairs available in the urban beach area, the perfect opportunity to enjoy building some good old fashioned sandcastles.

Cllr Ken James Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning & Sustainable Development said: “It’s fantastic to see Blackwood High Street full of people having fun and enjoying all the fantastic entertainment on offer.

“I’m sure many families have had a brilliant time enjoying the rides and meeting the collection of colourful characters on show. Events like this are perfect for showcasing what Blackwood has to offer and for bringing friends and communities together. It’s brilliant to see so much support from traders and the public alike.”
