Caerphilly Miners’ Centre gets business backing for buy-a-brick scheme

News | | Published: 17:00, Tuesday August 19th, 2014.

Caerphilly-based insurance brokers Thomas Carroll Group has become the first business to take part in a new buy-a-brick scheme at the former Caerphilly Miners’ Hospital.

The brick initiative is part of a campaign to raise £1.2million to preserve the 90-year-old main ‘Beeches’ building of the hospital and transform it into a multi-use centre for the community.

Thomas Carroll is taking part in the ‘Miners’ 8 campaign,’ in which businesses and members of the public are invited to buy a brick to be used in the construction, for £8 each.

The Beeches is in fact 105 years old, not 90 as stated. It was built as a family home and was lived in by Frederick Piggot before being sold to the miners many years later.
