A group of Caerphilly cyclists have raised £3,000 in aid of Cancer Research Wales by cycling 450 miles from Edinburgh Castle to Caerphilly Castle.

Anthony Griffiths, 56 and Jason Howe, 31, who go by the name the Castle Kings, were greeted in the pouring rain by almost 70 well-wishers when they crossed the finish line in their home town on September 6.

They were accompanied by Anthony’s son Matthew Griffiths 32, who provided nutritional, driving and moral support.
Anthony said: “It went well, it proved to be a tough challenge but we made it.

“The last two days were incredibly hard. There was a moment where I thought we might not make it when Jason and I both fell ill coming back over the Brecon Beacons.

“I think it may have been due pushing it too hard earlier in the day.

“But we took a ten minute rest and had some water and off we went.”

He added: “Castle kings wish to say a massive thank you to everyone who welcomed us home and everyone who donated.”
The group managed to complete their challenge over the course of five days.

Donations are still open www.justgiving.com/castlekings2.
