Caerphilly Council wants to hear residents’ views on budget

News | | Published: 13:46, Tuesday September 23rd, 2014.

Residents across Caerphilly County Borough still have time to voice their opinions on how Caerphilly Council spends their money.

The council, in the face of unprecedented Welsh Government funding cuts, is running a major budget consultation.
The consultation will run until September 30.

A questionnaire is available on the council’s website www.caerphilly.gov.uk.

Hard copies are available at the county borough’s libraries, at the council’s Mobile Customer Services Vehicle or by calling 01443 864354.

The most shocking figure to me is the budget for: Home to School Transport (Discretionary element) The current service exceeds the statutory minimum levels of 1.5 miles for primary (2 miles) and 2 miles for other (3 miles). (£6,496,000).
I dont really know if this is the cost of subsiding the bus service for children or the price of taxis for individuals – either way it seems extortionate to me. I note that there is a subsidy of £700,000 for public bus service in addition to this.
I am also suprosed that the provision of sports and leisure facilities costs us £2.4 million as the sports centres are always packed.
I wonder if they will take on board the results of the poll?
