Two prosecuted for environmental crimes

News | | Published: 12:00, Wednesday October 8th, 2014.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has prosecuted two people for environmental crimes.

Richard Michael Collins of Welland Crescent, Bettws, pleaded guilty to fly-tipping at Newport Magistrates’ Court on September 19.

Collins dumped waste on Twmbarlwm Common and was fined £150, ordered to pay £100 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
Leanne Rowlands, 31, of Derwendeg Avenue, Cefn Hengoed, pleaded guilty by post to non-payment of a Fixed Penalty Notice she received after dropping litter in Ystrad Mynach.

Rowlands was issued with a £75 fine and ordered to pay £120 costs and a £20 victim surcharge at Newport Magistrates’ Court on September 26.

Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “Individuals such as these clearly have a blatant disregard for our environment, and our Enforcement team and Community Safety Wardens work tirelessly to ensure this small minority of people are brought to task.

“I want to make it clear that we pursue cases such as these through the courts without exception – we will not tolerate the actions of this inconsiderate minority and will use all the tools at our disposal to ensure they do not get away with this behaviour.”
