The friends, family and support workers of a popular Machen resident gathered together recently to help her celebrate her 101st birthday in style.

Margery Davies was born in 1913 and spent many of her younger years as a post mistress in London before moving to Machen with her husband, where they went on to manage the local post office.

Mrs Davies is still able to live at home with the support of her family and regular support workers from care company Radis Community Care.

They all celebrated Margery’s big day recently with a barbecue and garden party at her house.

Emily Longville, who has helped to support Margery for several years, said: “We had such a great day celebrating Margery’s 101st birthday.

“She is an incredible woman and still very independent.

“She recently bought a mobility scooter that helps her get out into the garden, something she loves to do.

“It also makes it easier for her to see some of the many friends she has in Machen.

“We all admire how elegant Margery is.

“She takes a great deal of care in her appearance and we talk about fashion and have a giggle.”
