A man has been charged with two counts of making threats to kills, attempted arson, criminal damage and possession of cannabis, after police were called to an address in Risca.
Gwent Police were called to the disturbance at Forsythia Close at 5.05am on Friday October 31.
Officers arrested a 40-year-old Risca man and later charged him.
A man and woman in the property at the time were uninjured but, according to police, were left extremely shaken following the incident.
The man was charged with the five offences and appeared before Newport Magistrates’ Court on Saturday November 1.
He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Newport Crown court on November 13.
