A charity shop volunteer has been honoured for 30 years’ service to Barnardo’s.

Valerie Williams, of Hillside Park, Bargoed, has been behind the till at the charity’s town shop in Hanbury Road, for more than 30 years.

Her efforts have been praised by charity bosses.

Shop manager Judith Voyle said: “Val’s role is customer service and on the till but she can put her hand to anything, she can open up the business, close it and is now being trained on registering Gift Aid.

“She has supported me over the years with external events such as fundraising, fashion shows and skittle nights. All of this she does to raise extra income for Barnardo’s.

“Val is loved and respected by all of the team here at Bargoed.”

Mrs Williams has volunteered at the shop every Saturday as well as Wednesday and Friday afternoons.

David Howells, Area Business Manager, said: “Our volunteers play an incredible role across all areas of the organisation. These dedicated people give their time and energy, to make an amazing difference to the lives of the most vulnerable children and young people and I’m delighted to be able to celebrate their contribution.”
