Insolvency Service bans former directors of Caerphilly business from running companies

Business, News | | Published: 14:04, Monday March 16th, 2015.

Three business people have been banned from holding company directorships by the Insolvency Service after running liquidated Caerphilly business.

Martyn Thackwell, 61, of Pontyclun, Emrys Matthews, 66, and Dorothy Ann Matthews, 63, both of Cardiff, ran Trimstar Limited, an industrial paint spraying company based on Caerphilly’s Western Industrial Estate.

Thackwell and Mr Matthews had previously been banned for five years from being directors after another firm they ran was liquidated.

They resigned as directors of Trimstar in August 2012, but continued to act as directors until the company went into liquidation in November 2013.

Despite the pair’s ban, fellow company director Dorothy Ann Matthews allowed them to continue to act as directors.

Matthews and Thackwell have now been banned for a further ten years while Mrs Matthews has been disqualified for four years.

Susan MacLeod, Chief Investigator at The Insolvency Service, said: “When investigating companies’ affairs, the Insolvency Service does not just look at those listed as directors at Companies House. Anyone who acts as a director will be considered. If found to have been managing the company in breach of an existing ban, they can expect to be pursued rigorously and subject to an even longer ban.

“Directors who have little to do with the running of a company should also be aware that if they allow the company to be managed by others who are banned from acting as directors, they may be failing in their own obligations as company directors.”
