Decision to sell Hendredenny land to housing developer deferred again by Caerphilly councillors

A decision to sell land to housing developer Redrow in Hendredenny has been deferred for a second time.

Caerphilly County Borough Council cabinet members were due to decide on the sale on March 18 after deferring the decision last month.

But the leading councillors again asked for more time and a site visit before they make a decision on the sale.

Council officers had recommended selling the small plot of land to Redrow to allow it easy access to a plot of 27 acres, of which it has an option to buy.

But local councillors and residents are against the sale, saying they do not want more housing in the area.

A previous version of this article that stated “the leading councillors again asked for more time and a site visit before they approve the sale” has been amended for accuracy.

The decision will continually be deferred until after the General Election. the site visits and and extra time is nonsense since the committee should be taking advice and listening to the local councillors who are against.

If the decision is to sell the land by belief that local councillors are a waste of money and we should just have the cabinet will be confirmed. then again, I prefer a committee council with no cabinet.

The clue is in these words, “asked for more time and a site visit before they approve the sale” rather than the, more reasonable, ‘before they make a decision.’ The cabinet, I fear, has already made a decision to sell and merely wish to get the general election over with first.

Unfortunately, I feel you have hit the nail on the head. The local labour councillor for the Penyrheol Ward (and a member of the planning committee), appears to have hoodwinked his constituents once again.

Yes Cllr Richard Williams (UKIP) is right with this and it seems now that Plaid are using this matter in their election campaign, hoping that we had forgotten that the first review of the LDP in 2014 was unanimously agreed by both Labour and Plaid councillors. (links to minutes: http://samgould.uk/caerphilly-ldp-we-have-the-answers-policies-solution/) Would you say the issue shows hypocrisy from both Labour and Plaid?

It`s all very well elected Councillors now being against this land being developed, and they have perfect right to do in representing their constituents and I respect them for doing so, but, these same Councillors would have approved the land/area suitable for housing development, in 2010, when they created, considered, consulted upon and eventually approved, THE CAERPHILLY COUNTY BOROUGH COUNCIL LDP (local development plan). Who exactly was in control of the Council at that time?.

The consequences of that approval is now probably coming home to haunt them,

Some elected councillors are not representing their constituents. They are representing the hidden agenda of their party.

The proposed development of the Hendredenny site was not included
      in the 2010 LDP.

Furthermore, to quote ‘these same councillors would have
approved the land/area….’ is assuming that they retained their seats in the 2012 council elections.

If, as you say, the proposed site is not included in the 2010 LDP as earmarked as land suitable and available for housing development it must have been earmarked for other purposes, all land is designated in the plan. This means that the council would surely be in some extreme difficulty from a planning point of view when it comes to approving the land for housing development,

And for clarity, the 2010 plan was evolved and finalised under a Plaid Cymru Administration, it matters not a jot who may have lost or won seats since then. That is not to say of course that any Councillor can have a `rethink` and alter their positions and no-one could blame them for doing so, but honesty, not
hypocrisy is always the best policy

This episode smells of hypocrisy by our local Labour MP and Labour
    Councillors.

The local residents don’t support the sale; our labour councillors (with our supposed interests at heart) have done little to prevent the sale apart from dropping a leaflet through the door; and although they claim to be against the sale, a decision which they can easily influence the outcome is continually been deferred when ‘75%’ of the planning committee are Labour councillors. Labour cannot be trusted!

To coin a cliché – they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. A vote for Labour is a vote for the desecration of our community.

Labour will destroy not only our green field sites but also our sense of community. Just follow some of the recent published articles.

Why should this be a closed sale to a single developer? Why do I ask that question? Well, does it not seem that they have made up their mind that they ARE, selling if they have decided who they are selling to? Plus would it not be a great idea for the council to open it up for sale if they are so desperate for the £, enabling local co-operatives to buy the land for the community, thus stopping future development altogether?

A good idea, a land cooperative, where thousands of shareholders each own a couple of square metres of ground each, would be a real headache for ‘developers’ who wish to purchase farmland to bury under asphalt.

Something like this needs to be done as it is obvious that both Labour and Plaid have been unwilling or unable to protect the Caerffili basin from building on a massive scale.

  • A new health board initiative is changing the way menopause care is delivered in GP surgeries across Gwent. The Menopause Champions Project, introduced in June this year by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, aims to give patients going through menopause better access to informed and consistent support from their local practice teams. The scheme was developed by Dr Jayne Forrester-Paton, a menopause and sexual and reproductive health specialist, alongside Dr Michelle Olver, clinical lead of the menopause team, and nurse consultant Nikki Noble. Together, they set out to equip GPs and practice nurses with up-to-date knowledge and practical tools to improve care. So far, 41 GP practices in the region now have a trained “Menopause Champion” — a clinician who can provide advice and guidance on both hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options. These champions are backed by a network of colleagues and specialists to help them stay confident in managing more complex cases. Dr Forrester-Paton said the project had already made a strong start and would continue to grow: “We are proud of how successful this project has been so far and will continue to grow, with plans to expand educational sessions for clinicians, offer virtual case discussions to improve care for complex menopause cases and strengthen the collaboration between primary care and specialist menopause services. “The Menopause Champions Project is helping to ensure that menopause is treated with the same care and attention as any other health issue, giving patients the support they need, when they need it.”
