Three dispersal orders to operate this weekend in and around Caerphilly town

News | | Published: 16:42, Friday July 17th, 2015.

Three 48-hour dispersal orders will be in place this weekend in Caerphilly town centre, Castle View and Penyrheol to curb antisocial behaviour

The first order applies to an area of Penyrheol and will be effective from 5pm this evening, Friday July 17.

It applies to: Heol Aneurin, Pen Y Groes, Heol Graig Wen, Glan Ffrwd and Heol Fawr, Penyrheol and all public spaces and thoroughfares abutting these locations.

The second order in the Castle View estate will be in place from 6pm this evening. It applies to: Druids Close, Fffordd, Penrhos, Knight’s Walk, Skomer Island Way, Skomer Way, the area known as Castle View Shopping Centre, Cae Meillion , Meadow Way, Ware Road, Cwrt Nant y Felin, Clos Gwastir, Clos Y Pant and all footways, highways, playing fields, playgrounds, and land abutting any of the above locations, including public open spaces.

The third Dispersal Order applies to Caerphilly town centre and starts at 7pm. The order applies to: Cardiff Road, Bartlett Street, White Street, Market Street, St Martin’s Road, Station Terrace (Inc. bus station), Salop Street, Van Road, Broomfield Street, Twyn Car-park and Centre, Windsor Road, Penterbane Street, Stockland Street, Bradford Street, Ludlow Street, St Fagan’s Street, Park Lane, Crescent Road, Claude Road, King Edwards Terrace, Railway Terrace, Rhymney Terrace, Castle Court Shopping Centre to include all adjoining and unnamed lanes, alleyways, thoroughfares and car parks and all of Caerphilly Castle Grounds.

The orders gives police officers and community support officers with the power to move groups of people on from a specified area. If they return, they face being arrested.

Gwent Police has authorised the dispersal orders under Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, following reports of antisocial behaviour.

Inspector Gareth Jones said: “I have authorised the use of Dispersal Orders in the Caerphilly area over the last few weekends to help target and prevent incidents of anti-social behaviour. The Dispersal Order for Caerphilly town centre complements our ‘Town Safe’ initiative, which aims to reduce drunken behaviour and related anti-social behaviour and violence linked to the night time economy.

“In the Castle View and Penyrheol areas, we’ve received reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage, as well as reports of large groups of young people gathering. Our officers will be patrolling in these areas to enforce the Dispersal Orders where necessary. We won’t tolerate anti-social behaviour and the negative impact that this has on local residents.”
