Morgan Jones ward councillors have condemned fly-tippers who have been dumping rubbish along a lane near Caerphilly town.
In January residents, parents, children, ward councillors and members of the Bedwas under-11s rugby team joined forces to tidy up Gypsy Lane and its stream, which runs between Heol Bro Wen and the Parc Avenue Estate.
Lots of rubbish was collected, including car tyres and shopping trolleys. Litter has since returned, including an old washing machine.
Plaid Cymru councillor Phil Bevan said: “It is very disappointing that people are dumping when they can take it to the council’s civic amenity sites for proper disposal.
“The lane and green space is a fantastic play area for young children. But the danger of broken glass and dumped metal makes parents think twice about letting their children play. It’s really sad.”
Trouble is the large charges that have been brought in for using the councils civic amenity sites will only make this problem of fly tipping worse, rather than charging vans and trailers perhaps everybody should using these sites should be charged a nominal fee of £1, this would spread the cost across all users.
