JAILED: Ryan Williams

A Crumlin man who stole sentimental jewellery and £600 cash from a widowed pensioner has been jailed for three years.

On July 3o Ryan Williams, 30, broke into the home of a 79-year-old woman who lives on her own and stole jewellery given to her by her late husband as well as cash and bank cards.

He then used the cards to withdraw a further £200 cash on the same day.

Williams was found guilty of burglary and fraud at Cardiff Crown Court on August 20 and was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to a £150 victim surcharge.

Officer in the case, PC Jamie O’Gorman, said: “The victim in this case was a 79-year-old woman who relished her independence, spending her days out visiting friends and family.

“Ryan Williams benefited from one of these occasions and broke into her home, this has now made the victim feel violated and has since lost her confidence in going out in fear that she will be targeted again.

“Ryan Williams not only stole her bank cards and money, but items of sentimental value bought for her by her late husband which have unfortunately not been recovered and cannot be replaced.”
