BOOST: A cinema will return to Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall

Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall will soon be showing films again, thanks to help from Cinema for All and Moviola, two organisations that help venues to run community cinemas.

Some locals may remember when Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall was a cinema and the current committee is keen to bring back a little bit of the hall’s history.

On September 10, there will be a screening of Dark Horse, the story of the Cefn Fforest racehorse Dream Alliance.

On September 11, there will be a showing of Still the Enemy Within, a documentary about the 1980s Miners’ Strike

Following the reopening of the cinema at the hall, a film will be shown on the second Tuesday of every month.

Kathy Lye, Chair of Caerphilly Workmen’s Hall, said: “We are very excited to be taking this first step towards bringing the cinema back to the Hall. We hope that the people of Caerphilly will support us and make the community cinema a success.”

Tickets will be available online or on the door.

This is good news for the town and hopefully good for the hall and its future

It wont be able to compete with other local nearby cinemas until it has the money to hire in good, modern films, which will attract people for a good few hours entertainment, rather than filling a gap to raise funds for the hall. The solution would be for the CCBC to inject grants into the project to get the hall reestablished and give it a real future.
