More than 1,500 attended the Megaday charity festival on August 29 and 30 in a bid to help the event reach its £300,000 target this year.
The 21st Megaday took place at Caerphilly RFC’s Virginia Park ground and raised thousands of pounds for Velindre Cancer Centre.
The annual festival is held in memory of local musicians Andrew Nichols and Paul Grahame, who sadly both lost their lives to cancer, and was established by their friend Steve Sullivan.
This year’s event began on Saturday evening with Megaday Music from the Movies, where hits from popular films were performed by singers and dancers, creating an entertaining and memorable night for the hundreds in attendance.
The organisers said due to the success of the Movies event, something similar is being planned for next year.
Megaday Sunday started in the festival’s huge marquee with a Zumbathon, giving people the opportunity to exercise, have fun and raise money.
Later, 12 live bands hit the Megaday stage. The DJs played to a crowd in the clubhouse and headliners and supporters of Megaday, Best Served Chilled, entertained a full marquee.
The night ended with a spectacular firework display as a tribute to Andrew and Paul, known as Mega and PG.
This year, organisers are hoping to break through the £300,000 mark raised for Velindre over the last 20 years.
Megaday organiser Peter Hopkins said: “Many of the regular attendees to Megaday commented that for them it is the best weekend of the year and those attending for the first time were asking themselves why have they not been before?
“The success of Megaday is down to the support of volunteers, businesses and the good people of Caerphilly and surrounding areas.
“Megaday is as possible as ever, an event that is firmly established in the Caerphilly calender.
“Since 1995, Megaday has provided the opportunity for the community to have a great time, remember lost loved ones and raise as much money as possible for Velindre Cancer Centre.
“We would like to thank the community once again for supporting us in our fundraising for Velindre Cancer Centre after a hugely successful Megaday weekend.”
