A 48-hour dispersal order will be in place in Caerphilly town this weekend in a bid to tackle anti-social behaviour and criminal damage.
The orders give police and community support officers the power to remove individuals from specified areas if they are deemed to be conducting antisocial behaviour, and to arrest people if they return.
The dispersal order begins at 6pm today, September 4, and covers Cardiff Road, Bartlett Street, White Street, Market Street, St Martin’s Road, Station Terrace and the bus station, Salop Street, Van Road, Broomfield Street, Twyn car-park and centre, Windsor Road, Penterbane Street, Stockland Street, Bradford Street, Ludlow Street, St Fagan’s Street, Park Lane, Crescent Road, Claude Road, King Edwards Terrace, Railway Terrace, Rhymney Terrace, Castle Court Shopping Centre, including all adjoining and unnamed lanes, alleyways, thoroughfares and car parks and all Caerphilly Castle grounds.
Caerphilly sergeant, Sarah Greening, said: “We’ve seen an increase in calls relating to anti-social behaviour this week, which have included motorists congregating in Morrisons car park acting in an anti-social manner by shouting at and intimidating customers, reports of children using catapults in the Caerphilly Castle grounds, which were intimidating members of public and wildlife, and groups of children drinking underage on St Fagan’s Street, again intimidating residents.
“The dispersal order will provide us with further powers to tackle this issue and prevent groups of people from gathering, causing a disturbance and intimidating local residents. Our officers will be patrolling the areas regularly over the weekend to enforce the dispersal order and to prevent incidents of anti-social behaviour.”

Another sucessfully quiet weekend in the town due to proactive actions of Gwent Police.
