Caerphilly County Borough Council have begun installing LED lighting in street lamps.
Street lighting was targeted for cuts in the budget in February and the council has invested £975,000 in LED lighting which is due to generate an annual saving of £290,000.
This is a good, practical way to save money. Personally I do like sodium lights, that’s the orange ones, but times have changed and they are very inefficient compared to modern lamps. I do believe the change has already started as many of the lamps in Caerffili town appear to be LED.
This is good sense and money well spent. I don’t know anything about the technology but if it does what it says on the tin this is a bit of common sense. Praise where praise is due.
there is one outside my house and the first night it went up i thought it was a full moon as the light cast by it is almost identical
Still a bit disappointing that 5 of Caerphilly’s Most dangerous roads have their Lighting turned off in the late evenings….
