One person has been killed and another seriously injured in a collision on Bedwas Road, near Caerphilly.

The crash, involving a blue Seat Ibiza, happened at around 3.30am on Sunday September 13 on the Bedwas side of Bedwas Bridge. Two men were in the car, one from the Bridgend area and one from the Maesycwmmer area.

One of them, a 24-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and police are supporting his family at this time. The 24-year-old male driver was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.

Gwent Police Area Support Unit Sergeant Robert Ball said: “This is usually a busy stretch of road with lots of traffic, however at that time of the morning it would have been quieter.

“We are appealing for witnesses to this collision and I would ask anyone who saw this incident to contact us, if they haven’t already, or anyone who saw this vehicle beforehand in the Caerphilly or Blackwood area to call us on 101 quoting log number 99 13/9/15.”

Yet another young male needlessly and tragically loses his life in a car driven by another young male – as yet we don’t know if the driver was at fault or not but far too many young male drivers foolishly believe that their youth and quick reactions make them supreme and invincible behind the wheel of a one tonne killing machine , when the fact remains that there is no substitute for experience.

So what your saying is there shouldn’t be any young male drivers on the road. How can you even say something like that when you don’t no the reason for the crash, could be a number of reasons. Just because he’s a young lad don’t mean he was driving wrecklesly. I no understand where your coming from about young guys driving like idiots because a lot of my mates do it and it’s not something that I allow to happen whilst I’m in their car, but not everyone’s the same.

I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be any young male drivers on the road, and I didn’t say he was driving recklessly at all because as I stated we do not know the cause of the accident, anything could have happened, he could have swerved to avoid an animal or there could have been a fault with the car, all I’m saying is that too many young males wrongly believe that they are expert drivers who race around thinking that they are invincible behind the wheel. I’m no saint I speed myself, every driver on the road will break the speed limit at some point but there is a reason why young males have such high insurance premiums, that is because the majority of
casualties in road traffic accidents involving car drivers are aged 17 to
24 . I am tired hearing in the news of young male drivers killing themselves and their passengers, and I am horrified at some of the stupid and down right reckless manoeuvres I see young male drivers perform out on our roads. Young males think their quick reactions will get them out of any situation on the road, but they won’t, and a car with the extra weight of a passenger or two will handle differently to when it only has the driver in it. I wish that there were no deaths on our roads, especially young people who have their whole lives in front of them, but sadly another family is mourning the tragic loss of another young precious life, cars are dangerous and need to be treated and driven with respect and care, it only takes moments lapse in concentration and things can go horrifically wrong very quickly.

Paul’s got a point there John. Even though we don’t know the reason behind the crash, his youth, the time of night etc may well have been factors.

I pity the poor guy as I remember driving around like a loon when I wore younger men’s clothes and thank my lucky stars I grew out of it before one of my many crashes resulted in injuries.
