Risca pensioner assaulted after asking man to keep dog under control

A pensioner had to receive hospital treatment after he was assaulted by a dog-walker while strolling with his wife along Risca canal.

The 77-year-old man from Risca was attacked when he asked a dog owner to put the animal on a lead after the mastiff/American bulldog type dog jumped up at his wife

The couple were walking past a man stood with his bike when the dog jumped up at the woman causing “alarm”.

When asked to keep his dog under control, the owner became verbally abusive and assaulted his victim, who sustained injuries to the face, shoulder and ankle.

He was treated in hospital and has since been released.

The attack happened on the canal path in Risca at around 3.15pm on October 5.

The offender is described as being approximately 30-years-old, tall, of slight build, with fair hair and facial stubble. The dog with him was described as being white, of medium to large size, and a mastiff/American bulldog type breed.
