South Wales East AM Lindsay Whittle supports fight against ageism

News | | Published: 17:06, Wednesday October 14th, 2015.

South Wales East AM and Penyrheol councillor Lindsay Whittle has given his backing to the Say No To Ageism Campaign launched by Wales’ Older People’s Commissioner.

The initiative was launched by Commissioner Sarah Rochira on October 1 to mark the International Day of Older Persons.

Mr Whittle, who is Plaid Cymru’s Older Person’s spokesperson said: “Ageism is not as often in the public spotlight as issues of racism or sexism and I welcome the Commissioner’s attempt to highlight this key matter.

“Older people play vital roles across communities such as in volunteering or caring work and ageism can have a dramatic impact on lives. We need to recognise the contribution older people make. It is vital that discrimination of older people is tackled and not ignored.

“Older people must not be afraid to speak out and that way the issues of discrimination can be tackled. They deserve respect and should not have to endure negative treatment.”
