Tax credit cuts will affect 12,000 families across Caerphilly, Islwyn, Merthyr and Rhymney

News | | Published: 11:03, Thursday October 15th, 2015.

Almost 12,000 families across Caerphilly, Islwyn and Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney will be worse off by the UK Government’s cuts to tax credits, Unison has warned.

The trade union said 11,800 households across the three constituencies could lose up to £3,000 a year when the chnages come in next April.

Unison General Secretary Dave Prentis said: “Tax credits are a lifeline for families in Wales – quite simply they are the difference between them keeping their heads above water and going under.

“The government is full of praise for people who go out to work to try and provide better lives for their children. Yet these are the very people these punitive changes will hurt.”

No Mr Prentis, every last household across Wales will be worse off because yet again we are being hammered with year on year inflation busting council tax increases…..yet more Labour tax increase on families struggling to make ends meet.

This did raise a chuckle, on a day I hear that council tax is set to rise an eye watering 3.9%.
