A shop has had its licence to sell alcohol taken away after it sold booze to youngsters.
The licence, held by Simarjot Singh of Cefn Fforest Stores, Bedwellty Road, Cefn Fforest, was reviewed following an application by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Trading Standards department.
The council’s Licensing and Gambling Sub Committee was told how police, during a covert operation, witnessed youngsters walking out of the shop with alcohol. The shop had previously turned away test purchasers, suggesting the shopkeeper was selling to youths known to him.
In August this year, Singh was convicted in his absence of the sale of alcohol and cigarettes to persons under the age of 18, and was fined £1,600 and ordered to pay costs and other fees totalling £2,198.
Earlier in the year Trading Standards also prosecuted Singh for the sale of food past its use-by date.
Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Public Protection, said: “This premises has caused problems within the local community for some time, and our officers have worked tirelessly alongside our partners to reach a satisfactory resolution.”
How many times is this going to be repeated? Licence revoked and renewed in another name, revoked and renewed, revoked and reviewed on and on.
