A convenience store has celebrated its 25th anniversary by holding a party for its customers.
Staff and customers at Londis, in Troed Y Bryn, in Penyrheol, were also officially reopening the store, which includes a post office, after a major refurbishment.
Owners Premji Bhoja and Dhanji Halai were presented with a plaque from Penyrheol, Trecenydd and Energlyn Community Council by its longest serving staff member Yvonne Farruggia to mark the occasion.
The reopening and celebration took place on Saturday, October 10 and saw loyal customer Tommy Owen, 92, cut the ribbon.
Community councillor Bill Allen said: “They have been here for 25 years and they have done a lot for the community by raising a lot of money for good causes. If people are in trouble, they can help.”
In recent years the store has helped raise in excess of £11,000 for a variety of causes such as the Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre, the Noah’s Ark appeal, and Tom’s Dream – a local movement which raised £45,000 to pay for an operation to enable ten-year-old Caerphilly boy Tom Sargent to walk.
The shop also used to have its own Sunday league football team.
Customers attending the reopening were full of praise for the store’s owners and staff.
Mr Bhoja said: “For the last 25 years we have been pleased to serve our brilliant community – they are like a family.”
Mr Halai added: “We’ve gotten to know many families through the years. We’ve got customers who we served as children and now we are seeing their children come into the shop.”
The major refurbishment, which has seen the inside of the shop totally remodelled, also sees the post office opening hours extended to Monday to Saturday 9am to 9pm and 9am to 8pm on Sundays.
