Veterans enjoying an early Christmas dinner at Sainsbury’s Pontllanfraith were joined by the widow of a Légion d’honneur medal recipient.
Charlotte Morton joined 14 veterans for the meal in honour of her husband, who was given France’s highest honour for his contribution towards the liberation of the republic from the Nazis.
Roy Morton, from Pentwynmawr, passed away last year aged 92. He landed on Juno beach on D-Day, June 4 1944, in support of Canadian troops.
All the veterans enjoyed a cooked dinner, as well as Christmas pudding, mince pies, Dundee cake, chocolates and wine.
The supermarket will be recycling poppies between November 12 and 24. They will be collected and re-used or recycled by the Royal British Legion.
