Caerphilly County Borough gets funding for rural development

News | | Published: 17:00, Wednesday November 18th, 2015.

A scheme which promotes the regeneration of rural areas in Caerphilly County Borough has had more than £2.6 million in funding approved by the Welsh Government.

The money will enable the rural development programme, which will be overseen by Caerphilly County Borough Council and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, to run until the end of 2021.

The funding has come from the Welsh Government’s Rural Communities Rural Development programme.

Rebecca Evans AM, Deputy Minister for Food and Farming, said: “I am pleased to see that Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent are taking advantage of the investment opportunities afforded by Rural Communities Rural Development Programme. I look forward to seeing some exciting projects from this area over the coming years.”

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, said: “I am thrilled that the Welsh Government Rural Communities Rural Development programme 2014-2020 can now be implemented within the Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent County Boroughs.

“I look forward to seeing the transformation that this funding will bring.”

In the past, the programme has funded a wide range of projects and awarded business grants to firms based in qualifying rural areas.

Caerphilly Observer’s print edition was launched thanks to a business grant from Caerffili Cwm a Mynydd, as it was known, back in 2013.
