Oakdale development could bring 260 jobs to the area

Business, News | | Published: 09:49, Wednesday November 25th, 2015.

Work has begun on a new site for a door manufacturer which could pave the way for 260 new jobs in Oakdale.

IG Doors, based in Cwmbran, is building a new 18,000 sq m factory at Oakdale Business Park, with a £1 million finance support package from the Welsh Government.

A ground-breaking ceremony, to be held today, Wednesday, November 25, marked the start of the first phase of development at the site.

The new factory will safeguard around 140 jobs and will eventually support up to 400 jobs over the next five years, the company said.

IG Doors, which was bought by the family-run German company Hörmann Group in 2013, supplies the house building industry with high performance composite external doors.

Its existing facility in Cwmbran will reach full capacity by next year.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said: “I am delighted the Welsh Government is able to support this very significant investment by the Hörmann Group. It will safeguard and create jobs as the company plans steady sustainable growth over the next five years opening up new employment and training opportunities for local people which is excellent news.”

IG Doors Managing Director Mark Pulman said: “This is a major long development for the region and one we are very excited to be a part of. Over the coming months and years we will see the Oakdale site transform significantly as our business continues to develop and we look forward to many years of success ahead.”

It won’t be a lot of good for people who don’t have their own transport.

More jobs ain’t a bad thing, things are on the up I think. Higher production costs in the far east and nervousness around the volatile price of oil for transportation is possibly bringing jobs back home. Good times ahead?
