Kind-hearted residents have donated thousands of gifts for needy children as part of the council’s annual Operation Santa charity appeal.
Countless volunteers gave up their time on Friday, December 4 to help sort and bag the gifts at Caerphilly County Borough Council’s headquarters in Tredomen, near Ystrad Mynach.
In total more than 3,000 gifts were donated by residents, schools, charities, staff and local businesses for 700 children and 100 youngsters across Caerphilly County Borough.
Children receiving gifts from the appeal have been nominated by Social Services and charities working alongside the council, including Llamau, Action for Children, Home-Start and Gofal Cymru.
Cllr Robin Woodyatt, Cabinet Member for Social Services, said: “It never fails to amaze me how generous our residents, businesses, schools and voluntary organisations are supporting the Operation Santa appeal year after year.
“It was overwhelming for everyone involved to see the van-loads of gifts arriving from the collection centres across the county.
“On behalf of Caerphilly County Borough Council I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who pledged gifts and turned out to help with the sort.”
The council also said it wanted to give a special thanks to residents, businesses and organisations who donated to the appeal: Zodiac Seats UK Ltd Cwmbran, General Dynamics Oakdale, Credit Safe Caerphilly, Plasyfelin Primary School Caerphilly, Lewis Pengam, Heolddu Comprehensive School, Blackwood Comprehensive School, Morrisons Caerphilly, Tesco Risca, Braces Bread, Peters Pies and the Boys from the Brad.
