17-year-old boy arrested after fatal Tir-y-Berth car crash

A 17-year-old boy from Pengam has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal car crash that took the lives of two best friends.

Conor Tiley, 18, and 17-year-old Connor Williams, both from Aberbargoed, were travelling with friend Cameron Nicholas, 18, when their car was involved in a crash on New Road, Tir-y-Berth.

Gwent Police said the Ford Fiesta they were travelling in was in a collision with a silver Vauxhall Astra at around 7.25pm on Sunday, January 3.

Mr Nicholas suffered serious injuries and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff where he is said to be in a critical condition.

The female driver of the Astra was taken to Prince Charles Hospital, in Merthyr Tydfil, and has since been released.

The families of the two tragic teenagers have paid tribute to the pair and online fundraising for the three families affected currently stands at £3,500 after just two days.

Gwent Police said the arrested 17-year-old was currently in police custody and enquiries are ongoing.
