A US-owned joystick manufacturer has confirmed its factory in Cwmfelinfach is to close, with up to 150 jobs at threat.
Penny and Giles, which is part of the Carolina-based Curtiss-Wright Industrial Group, will close next year.
The company makes joysticks, sensors, and solenoids for commercial vehicles and industrial uses and has blamed the decision to close its Welsh site on “tough economic conditions”.
Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Labour’s candidate for Islwyn in the forthcoming Assembly election, has vowed to help workers at the factory on Nine Mile Point Industrial Estate.
She said: “This is devastating news for the workers affected, for their families and for Islwyn. I will work with all agencies involved, including Welsh Government and Caerphilly Council, to protect as many jobs as possible and to ensure training opportunities are available for any workers who suffer redundancy.”
