Newbridge School and Cwmcarn High School are to share the same headteacher, has it has been announced.
In what has been described by Caerphilly County Borough Council as “an exciting new opportunity”, Newbridge headteacher Lesley Perry will also assume responsibility for Cwmcarn High School from Monday, February 15.
A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said the move to share a headteacher came from Cwmcarn High School itself, which approached Newbridge, and not from the local authority.
The two schools hope the new arrangement will raise standards and will review how they operate.
Caerphilly County Borough Council will now work with both schools over the coming months offering its support.
A spokesman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “An opportunity has emerged for collaboration to take place between these two key schools, which would be in the best interest of all concerned.
“This is a chance for both schools to explore options for the future and the decision about the headteacher is the first step in a long process that lies ahead. A working group will now be established to drive this project and explore new opportunities.”
Parents of pupils from both schools have been voicing their concerns at the move via the council’s Facebook page.
Rachel Meredith posted: “If this affects my son’s GCSEs I will not be very impressed. Newbridge has been brilliant for him.”

A disaster waiting to happen. Two mammoth mega-schools sharing a headteacher will only ruin the life chances of their pupils even more than they currently do. The headteacher will struggle to have a firm grip over both schools. The people delegated responsibilities will become de facto head teachers in the two schools. The shared head teacher will then be a largely symbolic role that wastes money.
A child’s education is too important to mess around with by holding stupid experiments over leadership. I feel sorry for these kids who will grow up in a school without having a personal connection with their head teacher. CCBC do not have a clue over education (confirmed by the statistics compared to the rest of the UK).
Newbridge headteacher has no track record as far as bullying is concerned it will be a disaster!
