Risca flood scheme set to restart after four month delay

Work to reduce the risk of flooding in Crosskeys and Risca is due to restart in April.

Natural Resources Wales’ work to reduce flood risks to homes and businesses from the River Ebbw will continue after a four-month delay, with works at Waunfawr Park and Crescent Road.

Construction of the scheme had originally started last November, but suffered a setback after a water main on the site burst. Work is now expected to be completed in the summer.

Once completed, the scheme by Natural Resources Wales and Caerphilly County Borough Council will protect over 200 homes and businesses from flooding.

Melissa Mahavar-Snow, Project Manager at Natural Resources Wales said: “Unfortunately, following a high-pressure burst of a water main near the works, the design of the flood scheme has had to be amended.

“We have been working closely with D?r Cymru Welsh Water and Carephilly County Borough Council to review options and have now agreed solutions for both Waunfawr Park and Crescent Road. These proposals have been submitted for a revised planning application.

“We apologise for any inconvenience due to the delay in the scheme.”
