Secondhand car salesman prosecuted by Trading Standards

News | | Published: 14:00, Friday March 4th, 2016.

A Cardiff-based motor company and its company director have prosecuted by Caerphilly’s Trading Standards team for selling a mis-described car.

I Deal Cars 4 U Limited, of East Tyndall Street, Cardiff, had sold a 2007 Vauxhall Astra to a man from Bargoed for £3,100.

The man then experienced problems with the car and complained to Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Trading Standards team when the dealer refused to do anything about them.

Trading Standards officers found the car had been falsely described in an Autotrader advertisement has having “one previous owner” when it had actually had two, and that it would be supplied with a “full service history” when it only had a partial service history. The dealer also issued the buyer a receipt suggesting he had fewer rights than he legally had.

The company admitted three offences under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, at Newport Magistrates Court on February 19, and was fined £2,000, ordered to pay prosecution costs of £300 and a £120 victim surcharge.

The director of the company, Sayid Ali Hamzah, 31, informed the court he is now known as Hammaad Sufyan, of Barry Road, Barry.

He also pleaded guilty to the same three offences and was fined £1,000, ordered to pay costs of £300 and a £100 victim surcharge.
