Wales’ most capped footballer, Neville Southall, has backed Labour candidate for Caerphilly, Hefin David, in May’s Welsh Assembly elections.
Mr Southall, who currently works at the Canolfan Yr Afon pupil referral unit in Ebbw Vale, gave praise to Welsh Labour’s pledge to provide an extra £100 million in improving school standards while creating 100,000 apprenticeships.
Mr Southall’s role sees him support children with physical, social and behavioural needs, helping them find and prepare for work placements.
The 57-year-old said: “Hefin has a young family and so he understands the needs of parents.
“We’ve talked about the work done for children in the pupil referral unit and he has been very supportive. Hefin is Caerphilly-born and bred and simply wants to help his community.
“I think he would make an excellent Assembly Member and I look forward to speaking with him again if he is elected in May.”
Councillor David, who represents the St Cattwg ward on Caerphilly County Borough Council, added: “Neville gave me a few tips on how to take a penalty but I don’t think I’d ever get past him. He is one of our greatest sportsmen and so I’m delighted to have his backing.
“Neville is also a strong trade unionist with Unison and embodies Welsh Labour values. I want those values to be present again in Government in Wales.
“I will fight this election positively, with a focus on Labour’s six pledges to make a difference to people of all ages in Caerphilly.”
” Back of the Net” Hefin

Who cares? and why?
And neither does The Welsh Nationalist` I actually remember when it did.
A vote for the weak, and ineffectual so called Pliad Cymru Party, is a wasted vote, particularly if one supports any measure of Independence for our Country.
It`s you and the Labour Party that insist on calling Plaid the Welsh Nationalists, now you are starting to make me laugh lol
The same guy who belongs the Caerphilly Labour Group on Caerphilly Council that passed the LDP to build on green fields on Caerphilly mountain. Yes he was told to oppose it whilst the Labour group voted for building on Caerphilly Mountain when they should have sent the plans back to the planners because they were unacceptable.
Developers money rules over and above the good people of Caerphilly.
Remember this if and when they come knocking your door, but I doubt very much if they will so don`t vote for the Labour candidate or the Labour Party on 5th May and show them …….
Clearly you are opposed to the current LDP, well, and unless you hav`nt heard, so is Helfin David, the Labour Candidate in the Assembly Election, he has said he wants a far more reaching narrative in respect to LDp`s, He said he wanted to see them evolve on a Regional Basis, and not on an authority by authority basis, thus reducing the huge cost of infrustructure and planning issues to each Council.
I fail to see what is wong with that approach to future planning, housing and development proposals for the South East Wales Region?.
You appear to be pushing at an open door with Hefin David on these issues. And where on earth you get the idea that Labour would tell him which way to act, IN OPPOSITION TO HIS LABOUR GROUPS VOTE I dont know, that does not make sense.
Oh so cynical – David is standing for election so is told not to vote for the LDP. The people of Caerphilly County are not stupid and will see right through this.
You have a good point Lisa, Caerphilly Council stand to receive millions in community infrastructure levy payments from the houses that will be built in Caerphilly, so yes developers money does rule, and I dare say so do the extras that the developers throw in to sweeten the deal.
Yes Paul and so they should but what it means is that Caerphilly Mountain will be spoilt for generations to come. The area doesn`t belong to the Caerphilly Labour Group and people trusted them to look out for their area. They have let down future generations …
Come Election Day the rotten lot need to be kicked out, but sadly the majority of those that have been let down will yet again vote for them because they always have and they always will.
