Plaid councillor keeps position as Caerphilly youth champion

News | | Published: 12:00, Monday March 14th, 2016.

Plaid Cymru councillor Mike Prew will continue as Caerphilly’s youth champion until at least May 2017.

Caerphilly County Borough Council decided not to hold an election this year, so Cllr Prew will continue in the role for a ninth successive year.

The councillor, who represents the Morgan Jones ward, said: “I enjoy working with young people to raise issues of importance and concern. As this is a decision for young people, I asked if this should go for an election or whether they wanted me to stay on. So they held a vote at the borough wide meeting last month and 100% voted for me to stay on. I will continue to do my best in this role.”

Married to Lisa and with a son, Thomas, 14, Cllr Prew added: “Over the last year, the main issue has been the question of mental health issues among young people and the need for more education.

“I’m very pleased that this issue has moved up the political agenda in Wales and across the UK.

“Among the priorities this year that young people want to see is the provision of wi-fi in all youth clubs. Wi-fi is something that we all accept is a necessary element of the technological age we live in. There will also be a drive to reopen tuck shops in youth clubs run by the young people themselves and there is concern about the upsurge of young people being killed on our roads over the last few months and have already met with the fire service.”

A drive to reopen tuck shops in youth clubs during a childhood obesity crisis. Only Plaid and Labour would support such a ridiculous policy. God help society if the kids of today cannot go a day without their daily Freddo and carbonated drinks fix.

And climbing over peoples property and calling it a sport, turning a blind eye to criminal activity. Caerphilly has gone mad.
