Former Welsh rugby international Roger Bidgood has been elected as a Plaid Cymru councillor to Caerphilly Town Council.

The ex-player beat Labour candidate Tony Graham by 451 votes to 277 in the Parc-y-Felin by-election held on Thursday, March 17.

Cllr Bidgood is a former Caerphilly County Borough councillor and a retired firefighter who played five times for his country in the early 1990s.

The by-election was called following the death of Plaid Cymru town councillor Mark Newman.
