More than 400 youngsters took part in a StreetGames event, recently held at Caerphilly Leisure Centre.

StreetGames is a national charity with the aim of helping disadvantaged communities through sport.

The event, held on Sunday March 27, featured more than 20 activities for youngsters aged between 11 and 19. These included Parkour, dodgeball, touch tennis, boxing, biking, and street dance.

The event was held in partnership with Communities First and Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, said: “This type of event reiterates what the Communities First team in Caerphilly are aiming to achieve by offering opportunities within people’s communities.

“The partnership between Communities First and StreetGames has been highly beneficial for the area.”

Andrew Diggle, a physical activity coordinator with Communities First, said: “Taking part in sport can be vital in someone’s life. The health benefits and fitness are obvious but what is also crucial is the ability sport has to give people confidence and to bring them out of their shell, providing future employability skills.”

Supermarket Morrisons supported the event by providing 400 water bottles for youngsters who attended.
