Caerphilly Council crackdown on dog mess up for consultation

News | | Published: 13:00, Thursday April 14th, 2016.

Residents will soon be able to have their say on Caerphilly County Borough Council’s proposals to crackdown on dog mess and introduce tighter dog controls.

The council is proposing new rules in relation to dog control, after a 2015 household survey revealed that 40% of respondents believed dog fouling was a large issue in the borough.

The council is keen to consult with residents over a range of issues, including excluding dogs from all enclosed children’s play areas, excluding dogs from all marked sports pitches, requiring dog owners to always carry a means to pick up their dog’s waste, and additional requirements for putting dogs on leads at all times in designated areas.

Council wardens recently patrolled Penyrheol Park handing out waste bags and warning dog owners of the consequences of not cleaning up after their pet.

Last month, farmers with livestock on Penyrheol mountain expressed concerns after lambs suffered organ damage as a result of grazing on contaminated grass.

The consultation will run until June 24 2016.
