Campaigners are set to descend on the headquarters of Caerphilly County Borough Council to voice their anger at a draft plan which could see thousands of homes built on green spaces.
A Local Development Plan, or LDP, is effectively a guide used by planners and councillors mapping out how an area can be developed.
In this instance, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s draft LDP sets out the direction of development until 2031.
In its current form, which councillors agreed in February, thousands of new homes have been earmarked for green spaces across Caerphilly County Borough.
Residents have until April 22 to get their views across on how the draft LDP should be changed before it is formally adopted.
To mark the end of the consultation, several campaign groups will be uniting at 3.30pm on Friday, April 22, at Ty Penallta in Tredomen, near Ystrad Mynach, for a final mass rally against the draft LDP.
Cllr Nigel Dix, who represents Blackwood for Labour, said: “It is a chance to mark the end of the public consultation and to bring more public attention to the opposition to the LDP.”
An independent planning inspector will take into account the views of residents and publish a report in September next year.
This is the only time changes can be made to the LDP – if the inspector recommends it.
Another vote is then needed by full council before the LDP is formally adopted.

It can only be hoped, that those local elected Councillors, who have spoken up in opposition to the ` Planning Officer Inspired` LDP proposals, including those who have organised Rabble Rousing Meetings against the plans, Will now show some real gravitas of their elected office to properly, and meaningfully, lay detailed alternative, or `Actual` reasons, for opposing specific parts of the plan before the Council. Only under those curcumstances will measured debate be undertaken and changes made to that which officers have proposed. Placards, shouting and yelling meaningless abuse of the plans, ( Even though it may deserve such displays) will NOT achieve change.
Lets see a bit of Councillor authority make any alterations to the current plan that communities are demanding. And only elected members can do that. Rabble Rousing will not achieve the same or the best objectives
I understand your frustration …… Labour member/councillor being deeply
embarrassed and ashamed of your Labour Group who supported this plan, taking the side of the developers against the good people of Caerphilly County
The Labour group should be ashamed of themselves.
