A father from Blackwood who skydived for autism awareness has thanked supporters for their donations.

Ross Mason-Price, 27, raised £2,150 for the National Autistic Society after his three-year-old son was diagnosed with the disorder in January with a skydive on Saturday April 30.

Mr Mason-Price and his partner Danielle Meredith, 25, took Kaden to Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr hospital in Ystrad Mynach after he stopped speaking.

Kaden is currently undergoing speech and language therapy sessions to help improve his speech difficulties.

Mr Mason-Price said: “I can’t believe the amount we raised in only five weeks, it’s pretty amazing and shows that awareness about autism is growing.”

The tandem skydive at Swansea Airport, was originally pegged at 10,000ft, but due to cloud conditions had to be increased.

Mr Mason-Price added: “I asked if we could go lower, but they said the jump had go up to 12,000ft because of the conditions.

“I was pretty nervous, but once you’re in the air that’s it, there’s nothing you can do but enjoy it. It was brilliant, unbelievable.”

The proud father and close friend, Liam Dobbins, 23, completed the plunge in autism awareness t-shirts.

Mr Mason-Price isn’t resting on his laurels just yet, though, with more fundraising events on the horizon.

He said: “I’m trying to plan a charity event day for August where kids with autism and ADHD can come and have a great time.

People don’t realise that some bouncy castles and play areas aren’t suitable for children with autism, so we’re hoping to get some sensory equipment for the day and raise as much money as possible.”
