A musician from Rhymney has been crowned BBC Radio 2’s Young Brass Player of the Year.
Daniel Thomas, 21, who plays the euphonium, battled it out with three other finalists at the Royal Northern College of Music, in Manchester, on Friday April 15.
As part of the final the finalists played alongside the world-famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
Daniel will now get his own session on ‘Listen to the Band’ and a broadcast performance with an already established group.
Bob Shennan, Controller BBC Radio 2 and Director, BBC Music said: “The standard was exceptionally high again this year and winning this prestigious accolade was thoroughly deserved.”
