Local children and adults recently took part in a community cycling event organised by Velothon Wales at Ystrad Mynach.
More than 50 cyclists of all ages braved wind and rain on Monday May 2 to learn how to get the best out of their bikes at Parc Penallta, Ystrad Mynach.
Organised by Velothon Wales in conjunction with Sport Caerphilly, the event was aimed at teaching children the basic skills they need to get the most out of cycling.
Cycling sessions included skills, manoeuvres, techniques and road safety information.
Children and adults could also learn about bike maintenance and get their cycles security marked by a team from Gwent Police.
Children were provided with goody bags upon completion of the sessions, and the day also included entertainment and a face painter.
Matt Newman, chief executive of Velothon Wales organisers Run 4 Wales, said: “It was great to see so many children and adults enjoying themselves on their bikes, despite the typically Welsh weather.
“Velothon Wales is helping to put South Wales on the map as one of the UK’s best places for cycling and we are looking forward to another fantastic event later this month.”
This year’s event will take place on Sunday May 22, but last year was the subject of contention, with numerous road closures angering residents, while a small amount of tacks were thrown onto the route at New Road in Caerphilly.
Mr Newman added: “We are also committed to engaging with the local community as much as possible because we want everyone to benefit from the event.”
“Cycling is a brilliant activity for the whole family and a great way of keeping fit and improving your health and well-being.”
