Former Deputy Mayor Cllr Dianne Price has been elected as the new Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council following the council’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday May 12.

Cllr Price, who represents the Bargoed ward, has been a councillor since 2004 and takes over from Cllr Leon Gardiner.

The Deputy Mayor has been announced as Cllr John Bevan, who represents the Moriah ward.

Cllr Dianne Price said: “It is such a fantastic honour to have been selected as the new Mayor, and I greatly look forward to the challenges and opportunities that my year in office will bring.

“I have lived in Caerphilly county borough my whole life and am extremely passionate about our local area and its people. I’m really looking forward to meeting a great number of new people from all walks of life over the coming year.”

Cllr Price has chosen Velindre Cancer Care as her charity for the forthcoming year, and hopes to raise as much money as possible during her tenure as Mayor.

• Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen councillor Derek Harvard has taken on the role of Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, taking over from former Risca East councillor Rhianon Passmore, who was elected Assembly Member for Islwyn earlier this month.
