Morgan Jones Park set for a new buzz by supporting butterflies

News | | Published: 13:00, Tuesday May 17th, 2016.

Morgan Jones Park in Caerphilly has been selected as the lead location for the 2015 Natural Buzz initiative.

Natural Buzz is a scheme run by Keep Wales Tidy and Green Space Wales, which aims to support butterflies and other pollinators and boost dwindling numbers across Wales.

This year, the initiative will see wildflower seeds introduced to the park, which will support the growth of local pollinators. Of the 43 butterfly species which inhabit Wales, ten are in severe decline.

The scheme also intends to raise the profile of pollinators through engaging communities and local schools.

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration said: “I am delighted that this initiative is being implemented within Morgan Jones Park.

“Preparation work for this fantastic scheme has already begun and will result in a blaze of colour throughout the summer, whilst assisting biodiversity within the park.”
