Firefighters tackle deliberate fire on Rudry Common

News | | Published: 10:55, Wednesday May 25th, 2016.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have said that a grass fire in Rudry was set deliberately.

Two fire crews from Caerphilly attended the blaze on Rudry Common at around 9.48pm on Tuesday, May 24.

Firefighers tackled the flames with beaters for over 90 minutes before it was extinguished.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Gwent Police launched a joint project in March to reduce the amount of deliberate grass fires.

Our firefighters must despair at having to attend these mindless acts of criminality. A total waste of their valuable time and a senseless waste of money, if it is children who are starting these fires it is about time their parents were held accountable.

It is certainly possible that it is kids doing this but it does happen with alarming regularity.
