A Caerphilly couple who recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary have spoken of their pride at reaching the impressive milestone.

Dennis and Eunice Welch, both 90, married at St John’s Church in Cardiff on May 11, 1946 before heading off to Blackpool on their honeymoon.

The couple celebrated with a buffet at St Martin’s Old Age Pensioners Club.

“We’re incredibly proud. It means everything to us,” said Eunice.
“We met through a friend and went out to the New Theatre for our first date.

“At our wedding, two people didn’t turn up so I told my brother to go outside and invite two people in to eat.

“We paid for everything ourselves – it was just lovely.”

St Martin’s Old Age Pensioners Club meet every Tuesday at 2pm on Park Lane, Caerphilly.
